Date:
22nd November 2012

Derek is the latest celebrity confirmed for annual motorsport show Autosport International, open to the public at Birmingham’s NEC on 12th -13th  January 2013. Holding the position as one of the greatest sportscar drivers of all time, he will appear on the Saturday and Sunday of the show, discussing his career and answering fans questions during Q&A sessions.

After contesting 16 Formula One GPs, the Middlesex native went on to enjoy success in and become synonymous with some of the world’s most famous sportscars, namely Porsche’s 936, 956 and 962. His 24 Hours of Le Mans wins came in 1975, 1981, 1982, 1986 and 1987. He also tasted success in the World Sportscar Championship in 1985 and 1986 as well as the taking victories at the Daytona 24 Hour in 1986, 1987 and 1989.

Out of competition, he was part of the filming team for the 1970 film Le Mans, and he still appears regularly at historic events. In June, he got back behind the wheel of a Porsche 962 at the famous French circuit in a Group C race.

“Autosport International is a cornerstone event in British motorsport, kicking off the new season, and I am really happy to be part of the show,” said Derek. “I’m looking forward to being there in January and catching up with fans and race colleagues, old and new.”

“Derek Bell’s sportscar record speaks for itself, and he’s lived a fascinating life in motorsport,” said Ian France, Autosport International Show Director. “He’s also one of the genuine characters of British motorsport, we’re delighted to have Derek as part of Autosport International 2013.”

Derek joins fellow 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Allan McNish as a confirmed guest for Autosport International 2013, along with three-time Formula One World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart,  BBC F1 anchor Jake Humphrey and Formula 1 driver Paul di Resta.
