Derek becomes Patron of Mission Motorsport

10th September 2012

Derek is very proud to announce that he has become a patron of Mission Motorsport, alongside his boys own hero and fellow patron, Sir Stirling Moss OBE.

Formed by a dedicated group of serving soldiers, officers and Motorsport professionals; Mission Motorsport’s mission is to aid in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by military operations by providing opportunities through Motorsport.

Derek commented: “We often talk about heroes in sport, but to me our service men and women are the heroes, who put their lives on the line for our country”

Through engagement in the sport – the charity has a secondary aim, to open up a series of vocational opportunities, placements and secondments for injured servicemen faced with a return to civilian life. This month has also seen the first placements for Mission motorsport beneficiaries with Bentley Motors Ltd, for whom Derek is the global brand ambassador.

Derek continued: “I am humbled by their sacrifice, and have been very moved by their love of competition, and their desire to succeed despite adversity.  I will do all I can to support their cause”

James Cameron, co-founder and Director of Mission Motorsport said: “Derek’s support means a great deal to the men and women of Mission Motorsport.  He has worked with the guys before, and was very keen to offer his help.  Our team of wounded soldiers who are preparing to compete in the Britcar 24hr race have been privileged to have all had one-to-one tuition with a racing legend, he has been hugely generous with his time and his commitment to the cause has already changed lives.”
