Next stop Le Mans for the Group C race

Derek’s test of the Porsche 962 at Dunsfold was a success, despite the blustery conditions, those watching would be the first to say that he has still “got it”. Watching the straight line tests on the runway where he reached over 7,600 rpm in top gear, please excuse the pun, was a sight those present will not forget.  Top Gear magazine will feature a test of the car in the next few months.

With sit fittings, rear wing adjustments and chats about gear ratios complete, the next stop for this Porsche 962 is Le Mans and the Group C race. The practice and qualifying session runs for one hour from 1600 on Thursday 14th June. The race proper starts at 1005 on Saturday morning, the 16th June, running for 45 minutes, an absolute must for any Le Mans to witness track side.

Derek has always enjoyed the history and romance of Le Mans, however his outing at the weekend will not be competitive, this ex-Kremer 962 runs the 2.8 litre engine, and is down on power compared to others on the grid. Instead he will enjoy the experience and the atmosphere that is unique to Le Mans, and all being well, you can ride on board with Derek during the course of the race as he talks live to Radio Le Mans.

For those going to the Classic British Welcome on Friday 15th June, he will be present from 1200 to 1500, signing books and chatting with the fans.
